Genocide in Gaza Must End

Today is Nakba day, the great tragedy for Palestinians commemorating the ethnic cleansing that took place in 1948. What is happening inside Gaza today, the events since Oct 7t, is worse than what was experienced during Nakba. Deliberate starvation, forced displacement, targeting of families inside schools, hospitals and tents, is beyond any kind of moral or legal justification. Beyond justifying, Israel and its allies silence the truth, the media, critical voices, scholars, NGO’s and international courts. In Gaza, by not allowing entry of international journalists and directly targeting humanitarian workers and journalists. In Canada and elsewhere, by silencing those critical of Israel with absurd claims of antisemitism and delegitimizing and attacking those brave enough to speak out. But there is no hiding the truth witnessed by millions and seen by billions. No amount money or propaganda can wash away the horrific blood stains on Israel’s hands. October 7th was horrifying, the kidnaping of civilians from their homes and music festival, rapes of women and girls was a war crime and every perpetrator linked to the horrific events of that day, need to be brought to justice. My heart goes out to everyone effected, which included peace activists I knew, who will not be forgotten, and much healing is needed to move beyond that day. But genocide is not justice. It will not bring back those killed, undo the torture of those kidnapped or foster the greatly needed peace. This horrific reality of denial of truth and endless vengeance needs to end. Not with more forced ethnic cleansing and killing but with a political solution, placing Palestinian Authority in charge of Gaza and beginning the long road of reconciliation, rebuilding and peace.
